Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a list of countries that most frequently receive our patients?

Ukrainian patients are most often accepted by clinics in Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Denmark, France, Sweden, Austria, and Latvia.

Who pays for the treatment of Ukrainian patients abroad under this program?

Medical services for Ukrainian citizens are provided under temporary protection (Council Directive 2001/55/EC). The state pays for treatment through social protection agencies.

Can a patient be refused participation in the program?

Yes, in two cases: if transportation is risky for the patient life, or if ERCC does not receive offers from foreign hospitals.

How are foreign clinics found?

The Ministry of Health makes a request through an electronic system, European countries review and decide.

Is there a waiting list to participate in the medical evacuation program?

There is no waiting list, all applications are processed immediately by the Medevac Ukraine Coordination Center.

Who pays for transporting patients to foreign clinics?

Transportation is free. In Ukraine by emergency services, outside by EU partners with European Commission support.

Does the program cover the return of the patient after treatment?

If the patient requires medical escort, the Coordination Center arranges return to Ukraine.

Is participation available only for patients in critical condition?

Medical evacuation is available to all patients who meet the program criteria.

How long does treatment abroad last?

Duration depends on injury severity, number of surgeries, complications, and underlying conditions.

Can someone else accompany the patient?

One accompanying person may be transported if permitted to cross the border.
